So my wife started watching this weird show on Netflix called “Love is Blind.”
It’s this really odd “reality” show where people were put in a house with a false wall between the males and the females.
They were supposed to talk to one another and get to know one another through the wall, without seeing one another. And then after a few weeks or so (a few episodes) they finally got to actually meet each other. (Yay…)
So they meet, and are all “OMG he’s sooo cute and hott!” and “Yeah, bro, I’ve like, never loved someone like I love her.” It’s been… interesting. Apparently it’s been trending like crazy on Netflix, and with the recent surgery and quarantine going on, the wife decided she wanted to binge it. And binge we have. 2 more episodes to find out who got married, who said ”I do NOT” and who has the most followers on Instagram. (A few of them have over a MILLION, which is nuts.) #loveisblind
I would have NEVER thought I would have watched an entire season of a dating reality show, let alone sat through an episode. It’s not really my thing, but you do things for your significant other, and with your significant other that are important to them.
It’s not always about you, and I think more people need to realize that.
People need to realize that the world doesn’t revolve around them, and this quarantine is not JUST affecting you. EVERYONE is having to change their lives around for this. We ALL have to be involved for this whole thing to work, though. (I’m looking at YOU on the beaches in Florida and California, just sneezing into the ocean, making zombie dolphins and tuna with 14 eyeballs…)
I’ll admit, in the beginning, I was a bit skeptical. I thought it was some crazy commie propaganda spewing over from China. I was constantly seeing videos of the “Chinese Government” wearing big Tyvec suits and gas masks, like at the end of ET, removing citizens from their homes at gunpoint. Herding them all into trucks, vans, and other forms of transportation. I saw videos of people kicking and screaming, not wanting to be taken from their homes. And then, to further my suspicions, I came across a story that showed one of the buildings where the Commies were allegedly housing the infected suddenly COLLAPSED and KILLED a bunch of people.
(Here is a link to that story...)
(Hmmm… the plot thickens…)
Honestly, I think a LOT of us were waiting for news reports from China that were showing the dead getting back up and “Spreading the virus” by biting. Some of my favorite movies start that way, and honestly, I don't think it would be as bad in reality if it were to occur. We have a generation of people who were raised on zombie movies and video games, and there are literally hundreds of millions of guns out there. I think we would be okay.
(My absolute FAVORITE is Zack Snyder’s remake of Dawn of the Dead. It’s incredible.)
Here is a short clip from the remake...

So, with all this confusion and lack of real media coverage from the Chinese, it just was not adding up. And then people started travelling…
The virus made it to the State’s and began spreading. And not just on one coast, it was everywhere. Mind you, while this was happening, my wife was in California on a business trip with the Living in Yellow team. All of them were in Los Angeles… I was a tiny bit worried they weren't going to be able to leave. Luckily they got on their flights without an issue, and were able to spread the virus to the midwest… I mean, come home safely.
Relax, no one had it/has it. It’s a joke. Or is it…?
(Laughs and then goes into an uncontrollable coughing fit…)
Anywho, this whole quarantine thing has been a bit of a blessing, honestly. I have had a fantastic week spending some time at home with the family. Yeah, I have been crazy busy doing pretty much everything around the house since my wife had surgery, but it’s been awesome. It is very humbling and makes you realize just how much you need your partner, your spouse, or your significant other. There is SO MUCH that goes into keeping a household running, it's unbelievable.
Now I know what some of you are thinking… “Does this guy do ANYTHING around the house normally?” Yes, actually, I do quite a bit. #happyspousehappyhouse But the difference in my house, and I'm sure many of yours, is that cops, firefighters, EMT’s, and dispatcher’s don't exactly work “normal hours' ' so how helpful we are around the house can differ. I try to do the little things so she doesn't have to throughout the week: laundry, vacuuming, and small projects, since I know she is busy with the kids. I am sure that most first responders do the same thing, or similar things, to try and help out around the house. After all, our spouses serve with us, they just do it from home. I am very lucky to have found a woman that supports what I do 100% and will do whatever she has to to ensure that I continue doing my job. She knows how much policing means to me, and I am forever indebted to her for suffering through this job with me. #blessed
Now, I'm not saying that I am perfect or that our marriage is or anything like that, I just think there is a lesson to be learned here, and luckily, we have all this extra time to learn it! And that lesson is:
Take advantage of this!
Spend extra time with your family!
Have you been thinking of building something? Build it!
Got a beat up car in the garage? Fix it!
Heck, I started this blog before this all happened, but I have done more blogs now than I had before, and i'm LOVING it! #blogger
My point is, do SOMETHING with this time. Don’t just sit and watch The Office for the 13th time (since they took Friends off of Netflix…) Improve yourself! I have a literal STACK of books I have been wanting to read!
Do not let this ruin or rule your life. Yeah, we have to make some sacrifices and change some things around, but in the long run, I think we will all come out better for it.
Be safe and wash your hands!
